“Facebook, Helpful or Harmful?”
Have you decided to deactivate your Facebook account, but you just couldn’t? Yes, I know Facebook has become a part of your life and it’s hard for you to give it up. But come to think of it, we got along fine before social networks grew popular, we can still get along without it. Facebook can be helpful in many ways but it can also ruin one’s life. I’m not saying stop using Facebook, I just wanted everyone to take following precautions before enjoying the pleasures of such networking site. Everything has a limit and we must be aware of that.
Facebook is used worldwide to connect people and it has brought a great impact in our lives. Yes, Facebook is exciting and interesting in so many ways but have you ever thought the bad effects of it? Of course, too much usage isn’t good, but when used in moderation, it provides an accessible tool for communicating with friends.
Using Facebook everyday is an unhealthy habit, it can cause narcissism to teenagers or other psychological disorders and other serious health problems to all of its users. Facebook also reduces our face-to face contact and is ought to develop anti social behaviors. We are also exposed in danger in showing our personal profile to everyone. Including full bio data, phone numbers or even home addresses can lure irresponsible people. This is because if not properly regulated anyone can read all of our personal information.
According to several media reports, using Facebook could increase the risk of serious health problems such as cancer. Teenagers or even adults tend to isolate themselves, reducing levels of face-to-face contact. Reducing time of sleep and staying up all night long can be a reason of damage to mental performance and students might find it difficult to perform well in school. Facebook is more of distractions. In relation to that, parents must give their full effort in guiding their children in using Facebook. It is very unhealthy if a child reduces his time in interacting with his peers. A child needs to be exposed in the real world not in an artificial world he made out of social networking sites. It is not a good idea of spending lumps of hours in front of computer screen instead of playing outdoor games. We must be exposed outside to stay fit and healthy. Who knows? You’ll be missing an important part of your life. There are so much things waiting for us in our outside world. Spend your time in a more useful way.
It’s kind of irony that social networking sites intend to draw people closer together but it only create big gaps in relationship with people who really matters in our lives like our parents and family. Once you’ve started using Facebook, minutes can easily become hours and before we know it, we have wasted hour time, time that must be spent with our loved ones. Spending a lot of time sitting in front of computer is not going to get you friends but being with them sharing your valuable time would be better. All I know is I need more face-to-face and less text to text time with my loved ones. I need a more meaningful communication with people who matters to me than knowing what everyone is doing. The world of technology becomes more and more impersonal. I really don’t know why people are scrolling through their updates to know what their friends are doing or how they are feeling today. Why people need to know what others are doing every moment of the day? See, none of it really matters because what they are actually feeling or thinking right now is not portrayed by their status update. Instead of checking their status what if you’ll be calling them right now and ask them if they are free to have some coffee.
an essay written by me..and was included in the college pub.
